Why people make this journey
Astore is the approach to Rama meadow and one of the routes onto the Deosai plains, and it sits below the eastern side of Nanga Parbat. That is a substantial draw for a valley this remote, and it means the summer traffic is almost entirely seasonal visitors rather than the year round movement you see on the main Karakoram Highway corridor.
Get off early, or go on to Gilgit
The Astore road leaves the Karakoram Highway near Jaglot, well before Gilgit. Both approaches work and they suit different travellers.
Shorter, harder
Closest to the valley road, but it is a roadside stop rather than a terminal and onward transport is not guaranteed to be waiting.
Longer, more reliable
Three more hours on the coach, but a proper town with organised transport into the valley and somewhere to stay if you arrive late.
Summer is the window
Rama and Deosai are summer destinations. The valley road itself is harder going outside the warmer months.
What we would do
Go to Gilgit unless you have arranged a pickup at Jaglot. The extra hours on the coach buy you a town with facilities instead of a highway junction, and after nineteen hours on the road that trade is worth making. Coaches on this corridor arrive in the small hours, so staying a night in Gilgit and doing the valley leg the following morning is the pattern that actually works.

Lahore to Astore ticket price FAQs
Is there a direct bus from Lahore to Astore?
No. Coaches run up the Karakoram Highway towards Chilas and Gilgit, and the Astore valley is served by local shared vans and jeeps from the Jaglot turning or from Gilgit.
What is the total ticket price?
Roughly Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. The highway leg runs Rs 4,200 to Chilas or Rs 5,800 to Gilgit, and the valley leg adds Rs 800 to Rs 1,200.

Gilgit, unless someone is collecting you. Jaglot is closer to the valley road but it is a roadside stop with no facilities, and coaches arrive in the small hours.

Broadly June to September. Both are summer destinations and the access roads are much harder going outside those months, so plan the trip around that window.
