Five hours from the twin cities against eight from Lahore

Swat is close enough to the twin cities to be a comfortable day’s travel, which is why the corridor supports frequent services rather than a single daily departure. From Lahore the same journey is seven to eight hours and the operator list is shorter. If you are travelling from further south, breaking at Islamabad opens up considerably more choice.

Upper Swat

Continuing to Kalam and Malam Jabba

Mingora is where most services terminate, but this corridor has one unusual feature: a direct through service to Kalam.

KALAM

Direct from Islamabad

Faisal Movers runs through to Kalam and has its own terminal there on Bahrain Road, opposite the New Honey Moon Hotel. Around eight to nine hours from the twin cities.

MALAM JABBA

Change at Mingora

No direct service. Local van or taxi from Mingora, about ninety minutes up to the ski resort.

BAHRAIN AND MADYAN

Coasters up the valley

Both on the road to Kalam and served by local coasters from Mingora, roughly one and a half to two hours.

The Kalam through service is worth seeking out

Mingora to Kalam is only about 100 km but takes three to four hours on a road whose condition varies. A through coach from Islamabad removes that leg entirely, which is unusual on any northern valley route and makes Faisal Movers worth checking first if Kalam is your destination.

Where to board

Twin cities and Swat terminals

ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI

G-8, Chungi 26 and Pirwadhai

Motorway Express boards at G-8 Markaz behind Waheed Chemist. Faisal Movers runs from Chungi 26 and Faizabad, and other operators from Pirwadhai.

G-8 saves the trip out to Pirwadhai if you are in Islamabad proper.

SWAT

Mingora main stand

Most services terminate at the main Mingora stand, which is also where coasters for Bahrain, Madyan and Kalam depart. Faisal Movers operates three terminals in Swat.

Onward valley transport leaves when full, not to a timetable.
