The Jaffar Express train ticket price starts at about Rs 1,650 for economy from Lahore to Rawalpindi and reaches Rs 18,250 for an AC Sleeper from Quetta to Peshawar. It covers the 1,632 km run between Quetta and Peshawar in around 35 hours with 37 stops. Jaffar Express is the only train linking Balochistan with the rest of the country, and it has been suspended repeatedly in 2026.

Short answer: Jaffar Express charges Rs 1,650 Lahore to Rawalpindi, Rs 1,900 Lahore to Multan and Rs 2,200 Lahore to Peshawar in economy. AC Standard is Rs 2,400, Rs 2,750 and Rs 3,350; AC Business Rs 3,500, Rs 3,850 and Rs 4,450; AC Sleeper Rs 4,500, Rs 5,400 and Rs 6,950. It is dearer than Khyber Mail in every class on the sectors they share, and far more likely to be cancelled.

The pattern this year

Security suspensions: Services from Quetta were halted for five days at the end of January 2026 after track was damaged in coordinated attacks across Balochistan, and again on several occasions through the spring and summer.
Engineering: The train did not run on 5 and 6 September 2026 because of track maintenance, with the Peshawar service restricted to Jacobabad.
Typical form: The Quetta departure is cancelled and the inbound service is turned back at Jacobabad. Passengers are refunded.

What it means for you

If you board in Punjab: Balochistan disruption is upstream of you, but it still cancels your train. Lahore to Peshawar passengers are affected by events a thousand kilometres away.
If you board in Quetta: This is the only train there is. Bolan Mail, the Karachi to Quetta service, has been suspended indefinitely since March 2026.
Practical advice: Confirm on the morning of travel, and have an alternative in mind.

Alternatives on the same sectors

On Lahore to Peshawar, Khyber Mail costs Rs 1,650 in economy against Jaffar’s Rs 2,200 and Rs 6,500 for a sleeper against Rs 6,950, without the Balochistan exposure. On Lahore to Rawalpindi, the railcars charge Rs 1,100 against Rs 1,650. Jaffar Express is only the necessary choice when Quetta is one end of your journey.

The only train with every class on these sectors

On Lahore to Peshawar, Khyber Mail sells economy, AC Business and AC Sleeper but no AC Standard; Awam Express sells economy and AC Standard and nothing higher. Jaffar Express is the only service offering all four, which is its one genuine advantage on the Punjab sectors. It charges Rs 200 to Rs 550 more than the alternatives for that completeness.

Why it costs more than Khyber Mail

Jaffar Express is priced on the higher of the two main fare tiers, in line with Tezgam and Karachi Express, while Khyber Mail sits on the lower one. On Lahore to Rawalpindi the two charge Rs 1,650 and Rs 1,250; on Lahore to Peshawar, Rs 2,200 and Rs 1,650. Since Jaffar is not faster on those stretches, the premium buys only the wider class range.

The Bolan Pass section is the vulnerable one

Between Quetta and Sibi the line climbs through tunnels and tight gradients built in the nineteenth century. That stretch is both the most spectacular railway in Pakistan and the easiest to close: a single damaged section cuts the province off, and repairs take time. Everything that happens to Jaffar Express north of Jacobabad is a consequence of what happens on that climb.

A train with a difficult recent history

Jaffar Express was hijacked in the Bolan Pass in March 2025, an attack that suspended all rail traffic between Balochistan and the rest of the country for weeks. It resumed after seventeen days and has run, with repeated interruptions, ever since. It remains the province’s only rail connection.
