The N-25 dualisation

The Quetta to Karachi highway has been the subject of a major dualisation programme, approved in 2025 at a cost in the hundreds of billions of rupees and expected to take at least three years. Expect works on sections of this road for some time, which can affect running times.

Surab and Khuzdar are further south

Surab is the next town down and Khuzdar beyond it. All are separate bookings on the same corridor, so name the one you want.

The planning factor

The one Balochistan route where cold is the problem

Most of this province is planned around heat. Kalat sits high enough that winter is the season that actually constrains travel.

WINTER

Severe

Kalat records some of the lowest temperatures in the country, and snow can affect the road.

DAYTIME ARRIVAL

Strongly preferred

The reverse of the Sindh routes, where an overnight arrival is the sensible pattern.

SUMMER

Pleasant

Mild while the plains below are severe, which is why the plateau towns fill in summer.

What that changes about booking

Take a daytime service between November and February, and dress for the far end rather than for Quetta. That inverts the advice on almost every other route on this site, where an overnight run arriving at dawn is the pattern to aim for. Here a pre dawn arrival at altitude in winter is genuinely unpleasant, and the difference in fare between the classes buys nothing against it.

Departure schedule

Quetta to Kalat bus timings and departure frequency

Frequent, carried by the whole Karachi corridor.

All day

Regular

Six operators plus Karachi services passing through, so gaps are short.

Daytime

Preferred in winter

Arriving at altitude before dark makes a real difference.

Overnight

Karachi runs

Available, but they set you down in the small hours at a cold elevation.

Roadworks

Ongoing

N-25 dualisation works can affect running times on sections.

Choosing an operator

Which is the best bus service from Quetta to Kalat?

Two and a half hours on one road, so the departure time decides it more than the class.

BEST VALUE

Super Mekhtar

Air conditioned economy at Rs 700, the lowest fare, half an hour behind the quickest.

BEST FOR THE CORRIDOR

Baloch Transport

Executive at Rs 1,100, useful if you are continuing south towards Khuzdar or Karachi.

BEST WITH LUGGAGE

Faisal Movers

Business at Rs 1,400 with 30 kg, the main case for the premium fare on a run this short.

The honest recommendation

Take Super Mekhtar at about Rs 700 on a daytime departure. Every operator covers the same 145 km within half an hour, so the Rs 700 gap up to Business buys the luggage allowance and little else. In winter the departure time is worth more than any of it.
