The saint the Fareed Express is named after

Baba Farid Shakar Ganj lived in Pakpattan between 1173 and 1266, and Pakistan Railways named its Karachi to Lahore train after him. That is a useful marker of how significant the shrine is: the annual urs draws very large numbers and fills transport on this corridor for several days in a way the ordinary calendar does not.

What is there

Pakpattan and the urs

Pakpattan is a small city whose significance is almost entirely the shrine at its centre.

THE SHRINE

Baba Farid

One of the most visited Sufi shrines in Punjab, with the Bahishti Darwaza opened during the annual urs.

SAHIWAL

An hour north

The Daewoo hub, and the practical change point if direct timings do not suit.

THE URS

Annual gathering

Draws very large crowds. Transport and accommodation both fill for days around it.

Book far ahead around the urs

The annual urs transforms demand on this corridor in the same way the Sehwan urs does in Sindh. Book much further ahead than normal, and secure the return before you travel, since outbound seats sell first and getting back is regularly the harder half.
