Mirpur and Mirpur Khas are different places

This catches people out regularly. Mirpur is in Azad Kashmir, twenty to twenty two hours north of Karachi. Mirpur Khas is in eastern Sindh, five hours east of Karachi at around Rs 900. The names are close and booking platforms do not always distinguish them clearly, so check the province before you pay.

The district

Mirpur and the Mangla area

Mirpur is the commercial centre of southern Azad Kashmir, rebuilt after the Mangla dam flooded the old city in the 1960s.

MANGLA DAM

Beside the city

The reservoir that displaced the old Mirpur, and the reason much of the district emigrated.

JHELUM

Ninety minutes west

The practical change point, and where the Punjab corridor services actually run to.

KOTLI AND BHIMBER

Nearby districts

Both served by local transport from Mirpur in the southern part of the territory.

Jhelum is the change point, not Muzaffarabad

Mirpur and Muzaffarabad are the two main Azad Kashmir cities and they lie in opposite directions. Muzaffarabad is north east of the twin cities and the Neelum valley gateway; Mirpur is south east near Jhelum. A ticket toward one gets you nowhere near the other.
