Domestic fares

PIA domestic ticket price by route

PIA carries most of the thin domestic network on its own, and on several of these routes it is the only airline flying. That shows in the pricing: where there is competition the fare tracks the market, and where there is not it does not.

Where PIA is the better value option

On competitive routes PIA rarely holds the cheapest headline fare, but it includes checked baggage where the low cost carriers do not. Once a 20 kg bag is added to a Fly Jinnah or Air Arabia ticket, the totals usually land close together, and PIA is often ahead. The calculation flips if you are travelling with hand baggage only.

Where PIA is genuinely without competition is the thin network. Gilgit, Skardu, Chitral, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Sukkur, Moenjodaro, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Zhob are served by PIA and no one else. If your destination is on that list, the fare comparison is academic.

What you are booking

PIA cabin classes and fleet

Two cabins, and which aircraft you get depends far more on the route than on the fare you pay. The widebody experience on a long haul sector and the turboprop on a thin domestic one are not comparable.

Economy

3-3 or 3-4-3

The standard cabin on every route. Checked baggage, a meal on longer sectors and seat selection at booking are included, which is the main practical difference from a low cost ticket.

  • Checked baggage included
  • Meal service on longer sectors
  • Available on the entire network
From Rs 14,000 Domestic, one way

Business

2-2 or 2-2-2

Offered on widebody aircraft and on selected international routes. Wider seats, a larger baggage allowance, priority check-in and lounge access where available. Not offered on every domestic sector.

  • Larger baggage allowance
  • Priority check-in and boarding
  • Widebody and selected routes only
Varies by route Long haul and selected

Boeing 777

Widebody

The long haul aircraft, used on European, North American and some Gulf and Asian routes. Both cabins are offered, and this is where the experience is at its best.

  • Long haul and heavy Gulf routes
  • Economy and Business
  • Seatback entertainment on most aircraft
Long haul Europe, Gulf, Asia

A320 and ATR 72

Narrowbody, turboprop

The A320 covers domestic trunk routes and shorter Gulf sectors. The ATR 72 turboprop serves the thin network and the northern airports, where runway length rules out anything larger.

  • A320 on trunk and Gulf routes
  • ATR 72 to Gilgit, Chitral and small airports
  • Economy only on most of these services
From Rs 14,000 Domestic network

Fleet allocation changes and the aircraft shown at booking is not guaranteed. Confirm the aircraft type on your own booking if it matters to you.

Check the route is running before you plan around it

PIA’s international map has changed repeatedly in recent years as regulatory approvals have been suspended and restored, and the thin domestic network is added to and cut back seasonally. An older guide or a stale search result is not evidence that a route is currently flying. Confirm directly before you build travel around a service, particularly on European routes and the small domestic airports.

The honest assessment

PIA pros and cons

Worth being straight about: PIA wins on network and on what is included, and loses on consistency.

Where PIA is the right choice

  • The only airline to Gilgit, Skardu, Chitral and most small airports
  • Checked baggage included on every route, unlike the low cost carriers
  • Domestic and international sectors bookable on one ticket
  • The widest international map of any Pakistani carrier
  • Business class available on long haul and selected routes

Where it falls short

  • Rarely the cheapest headline fare on competitive routes
  • On-time performance is less consistent than the private carriers
  • Aircraft age and cabin condition vary widely by route
  • Schedules on thin routes are changed and suspended at short notice
  • The long haul network has been disrupted more than once in recent years

The short version

If you are flying somewhere only PIA goes, the comparison ends there. On competitive routes it comes down to baggage: with luggage, PIA is usually close to or better than a low cost total; with hand baggage only, it rarely is. For the trunk routes where every airline flies, price the full trip rather than the lead fare and the answer will be obvious.

How to book

Booking a PIA flight

  • Check the route is currently operating Particularly on international and thin domestic sectors, where schedules change more often than on the trunk routes.
  • Compare the total against the low cost carriers Add the baggage you need to their fare before comparing. PIA includes it, which often closes a gap that looks large at first glance.
  • Enter names exactly as printed on the passport or CNIC Names are matched at check-in. A mismatch means a change fee at best and refused boarding at worst.
  • Book domestic connections on one ticket If you are flying a domestic sector before an international one, booking them together protects you if the first leg is delayed.
  • Check in online and confirm the terminal Online check-in opens ahead of departure and saves a queue, especially at Karachi during the evening international window.

Common questions

PIA flight FAQs

What is the PIA flight ticket price?

From around Rs 14,000 one way in economy on short domestic sectors such as Lahore to Islamabad, around Rs 20,000 on the main trunk routes, and from Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 to the Gulf. Long haul to the UK starts from roughly Rs 185,000.

Is checked baggage included in a PIA ticket?

Yes, on every route. Typically 20 kg domestic, 30 kg to the Gulf and two pieces of 23 kg on long haul economy. This is the main practical difference from the low cost carriers, which charge for checked baggage separately.

Which routes does only PIA fly?

Gilgit, Skardu, Chitral, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Sukkur, Moenjodaro, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Zhob are served by PIA and no other airline. On those routes there is no fare comparison to make.

Is PIA cheaper than Fly Jinnah or Air Arabia?

Not on the headline fare, but often on the total. The low cost carriers charge for checked baggage separately, so once a bag is added the prices usually land close together. If you are travelling with hand baggage only, the low cost fare is genuinely cheaper.

Does PIA have business class?

Yes, on widebody aircraft and selected international routes. It is not offered on every domestic sector, and the thin routes flown by ATR turboprops are economy only.

Does PIA fly to the UK and Europe?

PIA’s long haul network has changed more than once in recent years as regulatory approvals have been suspended and restored. Check what is currently operating rather than assuming a route is running, and compare against one-stop options through the Gulf or Istanbul, which are often cheaper and more frequent.

How do I book a PIA flight online?

Through the airline’s website or app, a ticket office, or an agent. Enter passenger names exactly as they appear on the passport or CNIC, confirm the route is currently operating, and check in online before departure to avoid the queue.
